A VOICE FOR WORKING MONTANA FAMILIES
LET ME WORK FOR YOU

Meet Chris

January 5, 2024

Bozeman, MT – Christopher Pope, a long-standing local citizen and businessman, filed today for election to the Montana House District 65 with a core message of creating quality jobs for Montanan working families while stewarding the health and welfare of our communities – excellence in education, affordable health care, and protections for Montana’s world-class environment.

The key is to maintain the delicate balance between proactive economic development and protecting critical values including quality education, livability, and access to Montana’s remarkable water and land resources, Pope says. “I see successful state governance as a work in progress, and not something that can be taken for granted,” he adds.

“Each day, this community must reinvent itself to the changing times, and that requires a dedicated, process-oriented leadership that will protect the community’s unique qualities while creating public/private partnerships that encourage and promote quality economic growth and the protection and enhancement of the many amenities that make Montana a special place to live.”

The Pope for Montana House District 65 campaign will promote a central message of responsible, non-partisan leadership that emphasizes a district- and state-wide commitment to smart business growth, environmental stewardship, and youth leadership and development.

Chris and his wife, Maddy, arrived in Bozeman from Washington, D.C., in 1991, shortly after which time they opened The Great Rocky Mountain Toy Company on Main Street. Chris became actively involved in many aspects of downtown’s redevelopment, serving as President of the Downtown Bozeman Association, and Chair of the Bozeman Parking Commission during the planning and construction of the Bridger Park Garage in the core of the City. He was recipient of the community’s Life is Downtown Award in 2010. He also served as a past president of Eagle Mount Board of Directors, and was a founding board member of the Yellowstone Business Partnership, which promotes community development, environmental stewardship and sustainable business practices in the Greater Yellowstone communities of Montana, Wyoming and Idaho. Chris is a Rotarian.

After selling the family business in 2005, Chris has pursued a successful career in commercial real estate. He holds his license at the Bozeman-based NAI Landmark commercial real estate firm, and is a Certified Commercial Investment Member [CCIM]. He also currently serves Treasurer on the board of Montana Conservation Corps, a state-wide nonprofit headquartered in Bozeman providing conservation leadership for youth. In 1988, Chris received his Masters in Public and Private Management from the Yale University School of Management in New Haven, CT. He received his bachelor’s degree in Spanish Literature from the University of Oregon, Eugene, OR, in 1975. Chris and Maddy have two grown children, Jessie and Ben, who are graduates of Bozeman High School.
